How to Transfer WhatsApp Chat History from Android to iPhone

Moving from one operating system to another can be an absolute pain sometimes. Yes, sometimes the apps will talk to each other, and some apps even have special logins which means that you can just re-download the app onto your new phone and get your data from your old device to your new device. Mobile phone companies are getting better and better at getting Android contacts to transfer easily to iPhone contacts, and they are now even starting to be able to move text messages and phone call records. But unfortunately, one of the biggest problems that no mobile phone company seems to have thought about yet is how to move WhatsApp conversations from Android to iPhone.

WhatsApp has become more and more popular over the last few months, and in some cases, people are not even texting at all – all of their important conversations happen through WhatsApp. This is a great moment of success for the WhatsApp team, but it certainly can make our lives complicated if you are moving from an Android phone to an iPhone. You’ll definitely want to keep all of those conversations, but you can’t do that . . . right?

Wrong. There is now an amazing piece of technology that you can install onto your computer for free that will help you to transfer your WhatsApp chat history from Android to iPhone – all you need to do is download the program for your PC or Mac and follow these simple steps:

Step 1: First things first – make sure that you have the most up to date version of iTunes on your computer. You should be looking for version 11 or above. If you do not have it, ensure that you download it before you do anything else. Now you should run the software called Android WhatsApp to iPhone Transfer, with your Android device connected to your computer.

Note: Before connecting your Android to your computer, backup your WhatsApp chats by going to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup and clicking the “Back Up” button.

Step 2: A little message could pop up on your Android’s screen which will ask if you want to back up your data. Select the ‘Back up my data’ option. You should now turn to your computer, and click on ‘OK’ to continue. It may take a while for your Android phone and your computer to happily talk to each other, so you may have to be patient – but whatever you do, do not disconnect your Android phone.

Note: You might need to first enable USB debugging on your Android device. To do this go to “Settings”, tap “About Device”, tap on the “Build Number” 7 times to unlock developer mode and then again go to Settings > More > Developer Options and enable USB debugging.

Step 3. Now that your computer and your Android phone are able to talk to each other, all your Android WhatsApp messages should appear on your computer. Finally, it’s time to connect your iPhone to your computer via lightning cable. Now your Android and iPhone are happily talking to your computer, so you will see your both iPhone and Android being displayed on your computer screen.

Top Tip: If you don’t have separate SIM cards for your Android and iPhone, you can keep your SIM card on your Android device to receive the WhatsApp verification SMS/call with the verification code that will be needed to activate and run WhatsApp app on your iPhone. Alternatively, you can also backup your WhatsApp messages of your Android to the local database of this program by clicking the “Backup Messages” button, connect your iPhone to your computer and restore/transfer these WhatsApp chats to your iPhone.

Step 4: In the Devices list you should see your Android.

You will need to click on it to tell the program that it is the phone that you want to move your WhatsApp messages from. The tool bar at the top of the program screen should have an option called ‘Transfer Messages from Android to iPhone’. If you can’t see it, go to File, and then choose the same option.

Tip: If you want to transfer WhatsApp messages from a particular contact, click on that contact name and click ‘Transfer Messages from Android to iPhone’ button from the top toolbar.

Step 5: The very last thing that you have to do is to pick the iPhone that you want to transfer all of the WhatsApp conversations to.

This should be quite easy, especially if you only have one iPhone connected to your computer. The program will ask you to check that you’ve got everything right, and when you are happy with it you can click ‘Confirm’ to start the transfer process.
